Born in Montreal, to Frank and Catherine Tyler, Diane spent her early years in Chomedey Laval. Her family lived in Gouldsboro, PA, from 1970 - 1974, where she grew to love the beautiful Pocono Mountains.
Returning to Montreal after the untimely death of her dear father, Diane fled La Belle Province during the political turmoil of the seventies. She headed west and called Toronto her home for the next twenty years. Diane especially enjoyed her time at CFTR Radio, where benefits came in the form of concert tickets. Thus, she heard some of the great artists of the Golden Age of rock. A good concert was one of her happy places.
Diane’s journey continued west to Victoria, where she embarked on a long and successful career with the BC Provincial Government. She pursued Continuing Studies at the University of Victoria, focusing on Environmental and Occupational Health. The well-being of the planet was key to her, and she walked that walk (except for a brief detour in the Golden Bullet).
Diane loved animals, in particular her exemplary Shar-Pei, Mars-Bar, who was by her side for thirteen years.
Forever questioning, Diane re-examined all she was told at school or church or in any book (thank you Walt Whitman). She had a lifelong fascination with Astrology and believed strongly in Chinese Medicine and the power of acupuncture. She cherished Christmas and Easter holidays in Portland, with her sister and brother-in-law. Visting the peaceful Japanese Gardens was a fond ritual.
Diane treasured her lifelong friends. Whether catching up over a drink, or on Sunday phone calls across the miles, she loved a good chat. Her friends and family will remember Diane’s generosity, her curiosity, her beautiful smile and unique chuckle…her ability to light up a room, her wry sense of humour…and her love of a good martini (shaken, not stirred).
A private celebration of Diane’s life will be held later this summer. Please consider a donation to the SPCA, Victoria Rainbow Kitchen Society, or BC Cancer Foundation.
“So come my friends, be not afraid
We are so lightly here.
It is in love that we are made.
In love we disappear.”
~ Leonard Cohen
