Don was a husband, Dad, brother, great uncle, uncle, brother in law and most recently became a Grandpa. His family always came first and he went above and beyond to keep in touch with all family. His favourite place was Dairy Queen.
I am Danni-Carol and Donald Ernest Davies is my Uncle. Many love him and we will all miss him very much. His passing creates a hole in our family as he played an important part within it. I could talk about Uncle Don’s job, how talented he was at it but honestly, my Uncle is so much more than any of that. I will always remember his laugh; it always has a way of getting your attention and making you smile. When I was young, Sunday dinner with the family was a common occurrence. He was always at Christmas. He always came to my birthday dinners. I cannot remember a family gathering without him. Uncle Don was always there. What special times those were, filled with family, love, stories and laughter (and hockey games on TV). I am going to treasure those memories forever. Growing up, he had “his” seat in Grandma and Grandpa’s living room (right next to Grandpa’s chair). I used to love grabbing his coffee mug for him that lived at their house…it was easy to pick out; it had “Don” on it. When it came to Sunday dinner, you learned quickly that there was always gravy and you had better keep an eye on it …Uncle Don LOVES gravy (and desserts)! ! I always see Uncle Don as a family man. He has always taken care of those he loves. He does what is needed to help and comfort his family; he is supportive and caring in a solid yet subtle way.
I will never forget when Auntie Carol came into his life (and ours). Her first dinner with the family was a big deal!!! Uncle Don had never, in my lifetime, brought anyone home to the family. The moment I saw them together (and all the years later); you can see the love that they have for each other (I have only seen that love one other time in my lifetime and that was Uncle Don’s parents). My Uncle Don found his sole mate and the woman who was meant to be a part of our family.
I miss him already; we all do. Never goodbye – just a nap until we see you again. Thank you Uncle Don for all your support, love and lessons 💕
This is Lucas McCann and Don is my Step Dad.
How lucky are we to have had someone in our lives so amazing that makes saying goodbye so hard. Don, you will be missed. ALL I can do is thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of our family over the last 25 years. You were the loyalty and stability that my Mom craved and the rock she needed. Through these years you were able to watch me grow from a Teen to who I am today. I am so happy that we were able to share amazing family times over this time, with your wedding to mom and mine to Lindsay. Most recently I am MORE THAN HAPPY that we were able to share our little one Finnley. Being a Grandpa was likely not even something that crossed your mind back in the day but we will tell stories about you to Finn as he grows and he will be the light that helps keep Mom going. I can’t thank you enough and never truly said it, but THANK YOU so much for taking care of Mom throughout all these years. There've been some tough times that I’m truly grateful you were around for. This is not goodbye but instead a pause in time till we meet again.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gordon United Church on Goldstream Ave. In Victoria.
