It is with grieving but enlightened hearts that the family of Douglas Adam Bavington announce his peaceful passing on March 13, 2018, in Victoria, BC. He was 83. Doug was born December 5, 1934 the only child to Herbert and Helen (Angier) Bavington in Ontario, and at the age of 16, following an idyllic childhood filled with hockey, music, and adventures with his cousins, moved with his family to the warmer climes of Victoria. He attended Oak Bay High School, worked at the iconic Eaton’s, and drove with friends to explore all over the USA before returning home and settling into almost 52 years as a Realtor in Victoria.
Very early on in his new career he met the woman who changed his world and who would one day agree to become his wife. Although he often teased her about how long 60 years with him must seem, the absolute love Doug had with Sharon was evident to all who saw them look at each other. Together, they raised their four children who all continue to call Victoria home.
Doug had many interests, including the restoration and development of property, studying and collecting antiques and books, and the opportunity to fix or figure out just about anything. His work and interests allowed him to build long lasting connections with many people throughout the community, and those meant a lot to him. His passion for music, especially jazz, was always a part of his life and it would be a rare occasion to find him without a song playing or being whistled while he tinkered.
Doug will be dearly remembered by the love of his life Sharon, their four children Pam, Craig (Denise), Cathie Jeffrey (Trent), Graham (Pam), his grandchildren Nicole (Mitch), Grant, Colin, Sara, Matt, his cousins John (Helen) and Robert (Ann) Shaw, and their families.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to so many in the community who have shared their stories of Doug, and expressed their love and support following his passing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018 at First Memorial located at 4725 Falaise Drive in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in his name might consider The Kidney Foundation of Canada 310-5160 Decarie Boulevard, Montreal, QC H3X 2H9, or online at www.kidney.ca/give.
