Born December 15, 1921, she was the chosen daughter of Perceval and Evelyn Shadforth. A proud James Bay gal, she grew up on Dallas Rd. near Ogden Point.
Her father was a marine pilot, and more than once Ella sailed out with him to meet a variety of interesting people from all over the world.
She attended Kingston Street school and St. Ann’s Academy. At the age of 17, she picked up a car in Port Angeles for a local woman and drove it to Monterey Calif. with Ella’s mother as navigator. This led to a chauffeuring job for the mother of the CEO of Texaco International Canada. She commented that it was a very interesting time!
Married at 19 and the proud mother of 3 sons. Due to the war, she travelled twice across Canada by train on her own. During most of the war, she lived on Dallas Rd. with her parents, raising her eldest son Bob, followed 5 years later with Lorne, then 2 years later with Barry.
Ella spent about 4 fishing seasons on a charter boat for the fisheries, walking rivers counting the approximate number of fish. As a single mother, raising her sons was her greatest joy.
She was kind, intelligent, loving and had a great sense of humor, remaining sharp and living independently until the end.
She was predeceased by her son Lorne Moss. Left with many happy memories, she is survived by Robert (Liz) Moss, Barry (Betty) Moss and daughter-in-law Kathy Moss. Grandchildren Tristan (Jodi), Alex (Julia), Marlise (Jasen) and Kevin. GG to Caius, Lexi, Kaylee and Taylor.
A private celebration of life to be held.
