He was the youngest child and only son of Arthur Herbert Sidwell and Ellen Elizabeth(nee Benson). He leaves his cherished and devoted wife and best friend of 63 years Elaine Alice (nee Fry). He is survived by his daughter Kim (Howard) and sons Gregg (Sheryl) and Paul (Tracey), seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and by his sister Nina Low, of Edmonton, predeceased by sister, Joan Adam, Flint Michigan. Fergus was blessed with a wonderful, out-going personality and his sense of humour and story-telling ability will be fondly remembered by his friends and family. After serving in the Canadian Navy during WWII, Fergus began his three decades broadcasting career in private radio in his home town of Winnipeg, Man. He was a pioneer with CBWT when it went on the air in 1954. When CBC set up the delay centre in Calgary, Alberta, he moved his young family there and subsequently to Moose Jaw, Sask. at CBC’s first television station in that province. Later, he was part of the management team that built the Regina broadcast centre before retiring in 1983. Fergus and Elaine made their home in Victoria, BC in 1986. Fergus was an avid swimmer throughout his life and spent many enjoyable hours at Victoria’s Crystal Pool. Other interests include; water colour painting, crossword puzzles, politics and world events, but most of all, Fergus was a devoted family man. He gave his family so much of himself and we are grateful to have had him in our lives. His last words to his family were; “All this and heaven too”. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Royal Jubilee Victoria Hospice.
