It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Laliberte, 87, on June 20, 2026, in Victoria, BC, after a courageous battle with illness.
Gerry began his career in banking in 1958, taking on the role of chief accountant’s clerk. Years of dedication and hard work eventually led to him becoming an assistant manager, and then in the early 1970’s, one of the youngest branch managers in the system. A series of successful managerial appointments followed throughout Southwestern Ontario, Vancouver, and in Victoria where he eventually retired.
Believing in the importance of giving back to his community, Gerry volunteered time throughout his working years, to serve as Major Divisions Chair for the United Way, and as a member of the advisory board for the Salvation Army. He also devoted his time to serving on the finance committee for the Victoria Diocese, and as a lector and choir member in the various church parishes to which he belonged to over the years.
Gerry had a passion for baseball, golf, and gardening. He was a loving and deeply devoted husband and father, and a loyal, kind, and generous friend to many. He found great comfort in the power of the rosary, holding an enduring and inspiring faith in God throughout good times and difficult moments.
He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Karen (David), and his brothers Clarence (Lorraine), Philip (Carol) and Alan, sisters-in-law Veronica and Janet, as well as many nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbours. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Beverley, son Michael, brothers Richard, Eugene and Lawrence and his parents Winnifred and Telesphore.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church, 4040 Nelthorpe Street, Victoria, BC at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice to honour Gerry’s giving spirit.
