Born in the Netherlands, Jack moved to Canada in 1951 and called it home for the rest of his life. He married the love of his life, Sylvia, in 1952, and together they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary-Anne. Jack earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering while working full-time to support his family. Among his career accomplishments he helped develop an early computer mouse, an automated mail-sorting machine, and was an early advocate for women in engineering. He was well known for his vitality, playing tennis well into his 80s and golfing into his 90s; for his quick wit, cracking jokes right up until his last breath; and for his sharp mind, always ready for a friendly debate or lively exchange of ideas. Jack is survived by his granddaughters, Andrea and Lauren, his great-grandson, Mokiah, and extended family. He will be remembered with love by his family, friends, and community. A private family gathering to scatter his ashes will be held in his memory.
