Lorne passed away on June 6, 2017 in Victoria B.C. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Ivy, in 1986, parents Bill and Beatrice Duncan, and sisters Isobel Reid and Shirl Wade. He is survived by his son, Bill (Anita), and daughter, Anne (Bob) Burch, grandsons Gordon and Scott Duncan, and special companion, Catherine Mick.
Born and raised in Petrolia, Ontario, he served with the RCEME from 1943–45 during WW II. Following discharge he earned his BASc and MASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He subsequently enjoyed a 33 year career in the Power Operations Division with Alcan, firstly in the Saguenay-Lake St. John region of Quebec from 1950-75 and thereafter in Kitimat, B.C. from 1975-83. In 1988 following retirement, he moved to Victoria.
In his younger days, Lorne was an excellent athlete being a top golfer, avid fisherman and duck hunter, as well as an alpine skier. He continued skiing until the early 2000’s and golfed into the fall of 2016. He took up Scottish dancing while in Kitimat and added ballroom dancing to this pastime when he moved to Victoria.
Lorne was a very intelligent man and was loyal to his numerous life-long friends. He treated all with respect and openness.
A Memorial Tea will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 starting at 2 pm until 4 pm at the Uplands Golf Club, 3300 Cadboro Bay Road, Oak Bay, B.C. A private interment of the remains will be held at a later date in Kitimat. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
