Janet was born on March 27, 1948, in Victoria, B.C., the third child of Bill and Frances Champion. Predeceased by her parents and her siblings Patricia and Bill, she is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Breana and Michaela Curnow; her grandchildren, Gavin, Keiffe, and Calihan; 11 nieces and nephews; and many close friends and colleagues.
A compassionate and gentle soul, Janet was known for her calm presence, kindness, and deep care for others. After earning a Bachelor of Social Work and a Master’s in Counselling from the University of Victoria, Janet devoted her career to helping others, including her meaningful work with the YMCA. She lived a life grounded in quiet wisdom, balance and wellness, finding joy in running, gardening, reading, yoga, and meditation. She especially cherished time with loved ones and the beauty of everyday moments, and continued to enjoy tending the garden at the lodge until her final days.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Resthaven Lodge for their exceptional care, and to her devoted caregiver, Julianne, for her compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Janet's life and love of nature, please consider planting a tree or flower in her memory.
