Born on April 18, 1951 in Birmingham, England, Jan dedicated her life to her family, her friends, and her love of music. She was the proud mother of four children and the devoted granny of ten, all of whom brought her endless joy and pride.
A lifelong music lover, Jan found great joy in singing with the Cathedral Parish Choir and the Arbutus Singers, where her warm voice and jovial spirit uplifted everyone around her. She was a dedicated member of the Cathedral and related communities for many decades, volunteering her time and talents in countless ways.
Her sense of humour and kindness touched all who knew her. She will be remembered for her resilience and devotion in raising her children in what was a very busy and active household, her powerful alto voice, and her ability to make every gathering feel like home.
Jan found great enjoyment in watching sports of all kinds, particularly tennis, rugby, cricket, and soccer, but some of the happiest times in her life were the countless hours she spent on the sidelines cheering on her children in their various athletic pursuits.
Jan is survived by her four children: Simon (Rhonda), Suzanne (Kirk), Thomas (Kristy), and James (Dana) and their father, Vernon; her ten grandchildren: Gabriel, Alyssa, Seamus, Makenna, Annabelle, Alistair, Rowan, Delia, Anson, and Wrena; her brothers Brian and Andrew; as well as many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, with a reception to follow in the Chapel of the New Jerusalem. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Coldest Night of the Year or the Saanich Peninsula Hospice Unit, in her memory.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
