Sid carved out a path that was uniquely his. Whether it was through his career, his family, or his passions, Sid was always true to himself, guided by a deep sense of purpose and an unwavering belief in what mattered most to him.
He emigrated from India in April 1964 and attended BCIT to complete his diploma in Mechanical Technology, working summers in the Ontario mining sector. He eventually chose Victoria and started working with a BC Government Crown corporation in 1967, putting his natural skills in mathematics and physics to use before retiring in 1996.
He met and fell in love with the love of his life, Carol and they wed in 1970 and had two sons, Michael and Paul. It was Paul’s mental disabilities that had a huge impact on Sid, where he dedicated his life to community organizations and helping other families with children with disabilities.
He was heavily involved in the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Victoria Centre, and won many awards for his 40 years of dedication to that organization and other community groups.
Sid was often found hiking in the hills around his home in the Highlands, talking with other neighbours and people in the community. He also enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren.
Sid passed away peacefully in his sleep and was surrounded by family on October 26, 2025. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 55 years, Carol, and his sons Michael (Marena) and Paul, and grandchildren Liam, Zachary and Kira. He is also survived by his brother Baldev and sister Balbir and predeceased by his parents Puran and Bhagwan, and brothers Gurdev and Gurcharan.
