Joan was born and raised in Victoria. She spent more than 30 years at Saanich Silver Threads as a director. She volunteered for many years at senior care homes and often took the time to visit with residents whose families lived out of town. Joan was a vital part of the senior care community, her hard work and dedication were traits that many admired about her. Her retirement from Silver Threads was attended by over 400 people, with the mayor of Victoria and Victoria Police Choir contributing to the celebration.
Joan was an avid gardener and enjoyed the morning crossword.
Joan is predeceased by her parents, William and Winnifred; younger brothers, Steve and Bob; and best friend, Pat Sturmey.
Joan is survived by her two sons, Steve and Mike; two younger sisters, Jean (Jim), Cathy; granddaughter, Alexa (Mark) Way; goddaughter, Andrea; the neighbour’s cat, Max; nephews, Jason (Jade), Carl, and Sean (Julie); and good friends, Greg Ord and Diana Schmid.
