Born in Montreal, Quebec, Gerry served 35 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and spent his last years heroically battling Lewy Body Dementia. On August 7, Gerry took his last breath while surrounded by family.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Landon) and his three daughters and son in laws: Denise and Grant; Suzanne and Michael; and Michelle and Paul. He also leaves behind his seven grandchildren, Devon, Victoria, Courtni (and Sunil), Anastasia, Broderic, Mark and Sarah, as well his only great granddaughter Emersyn. Gerry loved his family and always put them first. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and boating. He was a master swimmer as well as skier, ensuring his children benefited from his teachings. If he wasn’t outdoors you would find him in his workshop, welding, woodworking or fixing anything from toasters to cars. He had a special place in his heart for dogs and always found room for them on his lap, whether small or large. It was difficult to watch him battle the dementia but Gerry always remained kind and kept his sense of humour. Although it is hard to say goodbye, he is in a better place where there is endless rainbow trout, fresh baked pies, and plenty of birds waiting to eat from his hands.
To honour Gerry, there will be Celebration of Life August 29th, 2-5 pm at the HCP Gardens located on 505 Quayle Rd, Victoria, BC for family and friends (carpooling is recommended). In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the Saanich Peninsula Extended Care Unit Community Garden, or the Dementia society of BC would be appropriate.
