It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Kaija Dixon on September 30, 2025. Kaija died peacefully with family and friends nearby.
Born in Finland on November 24, 1936, Kaija’s life was one of adventure, dedication, and warmth. She lived in the United Kingdom and Canada, eventually retiring in Victoria, BC. Over the course of her career, she worked with several Inuit organizations, where her strong work ethic, compassion, and curiosity for people and cultures left a lasting mark. Kaija thrived on traveling, tending her garden, and finding joy in helping others through her constant spirit of volunteering.
A proud Finn throughout her life, Kaija delighted in reminding those around her that Finland was the only country to fully repay its World War I debt to the United States. Her pride in her heritage, combined with her openness to the world, was a hallmark of her character.
Kaija was predeceased by her parents, her brother Eero, and her sister Helena. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Richard; her sons Lars and Mark (Sandra); and her treasured grandsons, Edward and Barrett.
A celebration of Kaija’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will come together to honor her remarkable journey, her generosity of spirit, and her deep love for those she leaves behind.
She will be remembered always with gratitude, affection, and admiration.
