Keith graduated from Kimberley High School in 1952 and continued on with Grade 13, which was offered as first year of University. However, he loved the outdoors and planned a career as Park Ranger or somehow a career where he could spend a good deal of time outdoors. The North beckoned and when he was 18 he travelled to Port Radium, N.W.T. and worked for Echo Bay Mines.
On March 10, 1955 he "was accepted by the Commissioner into the R.C.M.P. as a Third Class Constable at the rate of $2,436.00 per annum".
Following Training, Keith's first posting was back to the North, Hay River, N.W.T. He loved the North Country. This was the 50's when dogsled was the means of travel for long distances across the ice and snow.
In 1959 Keith arrived in Edmonton and was in the Admin Office there. Coincidentally Carole arrived in Edmonton around that time having just returned from travelling to Europe and they met on a "blind date" although both were from Kimberley so had mutual friends and schoolmates. They were married in 1960 in Kimberley and were transferred to Lethbridge, Alberta. Two years later, back to Edmonton where both girls were born at the brand new Royal Alexandra Hospital. When Deanna was four weeks old, another transfer to Ottawa where they enjoyed living in the Capital City with friends and fellow members they had met previously.
In 1972 another transfer to Victoria Subdivision where they settled in to a new landscape and the Pacific Ocean. They particularly enjoyed their summer place at Shawnigan Lake and living in Oak Bay where the girls graduated from Oak Bay High School. After retirement Keith took a Real Estate Course and enjoyed the housing market. Finally moved to Dallas Road and then the Harbourside in James Bay with all the tourist activity and access to downtown.
Keith loved life. Loved his family and lived life to the fullest. Always curious, with a variety of hobbies (bee keeping!) Keith was well informed, travelled extensively, and loved good food - however, sitting in the sun with a good book was bliss.
We will be forever thankful for the kindness and care that was extended to Keith during his stay at The Heights at Mount View, particularly on the 4th Floor West. We spent many afternoons in the garden surrounding the building and sitting in front of the fireplace.
