OBITUARY

M. Ruth (Payne) Heimlich

25 March, 1933 – 24 August, 2018
IN THE CARE OF

First Memorial Funeral Services & Garden of Memories

Our beautiful wife, mother & grandmother lost her battle with cancer surrounded by family.

Survived by Dr. Hans Heimlich, her husband of 63 years, & her children, including 2 sets of twins; Karin (Jeff), Sandy (Terry), Karl (Paula), Angela (Serge), Barbara (Tom), Sharon (Ray), & grandchildren Kirsten (Jonny), Kaylee (Miguel), Ryan, Kristopher, Stephan, Alexa, Maxim & Michaela. Predeceased by son André (1990), brothers Gordon & Harold Payne, & a succession of adored cats & dogs.

Graduated in 1955 from St. Joseph`s School of Nursing in Victoria, member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 10 years, Ruth remained close with classmates throughout her life. Ruth had a beautiful voice, singing with Victoria's Sweet Adelines. She was a fabulous cook & thrived on hosting her family & friends over memorably boisterous meals. She enjoyed her garden, her bridge clubs, & always had a book, jigsaw or crossword on the go. She walked thousands of kilometers over the years with the Hillside Mall Walkers, her favourite paths being Cedar Hill Golf Course & Butchart`s. Ruth`s many beautiful paintings grace both the walls of her home & her carefully crafted Christmas cards. She was very proud of her Scottish/English heritage & could bless a haggis admirably. She was intrigued to learn her father was the son of Evelyn Baring, the 1st Earl of Cromer, the younger brother of Baron Revelstoke, who was the great-great grandfather of Princess Diana. She didn't let it go to her head but loved to share this tidbit with others. She told us all she lived a full & happy life. Her one regret was not living to see the end of Donald Trump`s presidency. We will miss so much about her, including her passion & sense of humour.

The family is grateful to Janice Robinson (NP), Dr. K. Sihota (Hospice) & Dr. J. Cox, for their kindness & compassionate care.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be planned for a later date. Leave contact info at Legacy.com to be kept informed. In lieu of flowers, a donation to BC SPCA`s Wild ARC would be appreciated.

``You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, & though we cannot see you, you`re always by our side.``
