Chic was an officer, gentleman, soldier, sailor, author, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He was always calm, thoughtful, and kind. He began his military career as a “boy soldier” in WWII and remained in the Canadian Army for 34 years, serving with the Royal 22nd Regiment and PPCLI. Chic was proud to receive the French Legion of Honour medal for his service in France in WWII.
In retirement, Chic owned Rimpac Divers in Sidney, BC, became the first National Director of PADI Canada, served on the Saanich Advisory Planning Commission, was a trustee on the Board of Victoria General Hospital, and was Vice President of the Vancouver Island Hospital Association. He was the President of the Sidney and North Saanich Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club.
In the fall of 1986, he sailed “Airborne II” to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, where he met his future wife, Nancy. They sailed down the Pacific coast to the Panama Canal and then north to Florida where they were married five years later.
Chic will be greatly missed by his wife, Nancy, children Charlotte (Alan), Charlie (Cindy), Doug, and by his 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sister Shalagh, nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada and the US.
We wish to thank Dr. Eric George and all the nurses and staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the SNSYC, 1949 Marina Way, North Saanich, BC.
