The family is sad to announce that Malcolm Douglas Leangen passed away on October 31, 2025. He was born on October 2, 1944, in Birmingham, England and came to Canada with his Mom when he was two years old.
Mal graduated from Oak Bay High school in 1961, where he met his first wife, Brenda. Together, they had three children: Richard, Stephanie and Jennifer.
Mal loved his long career at B.C.Tel, where he worked for 34 years. During that time, he met Linda, who would become his wife and lifelong companion. They had two children together, David and Kathleen. They shared 54 wonderful years of marriage filled with laughter, travel and times spent with family and friends. They made their home in the Fairfield area, where they lived for the rest of his life. After Mal retired, he worked at the Oak Bay Home Hardware store which he loved.
Mal's humour and big heart lit up the lives of his family, friends and neighbours like the spectacular Christmas lights he would put up for all to see. Mal had so many friends and his loss will be felt by all who knew him. Many neighbours have said that Fairfield will never be the same. Mal will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Linda, his children and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Egan and Wilma, and Dr. Kari-Jean McKenzie for their care and support.
We love you, Mal, and you will be in our hearts forever. Your daughter and granddaughter are waiting for you with open arms.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
