With profound sadness, we announce the passing of avid golfer and renowned Dubonnet connoisseur Margaret Kerr (née Milligan) at age 97. Margaret was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1929. Glasgow was also the birthplace of the love of her life, George.
Following marriage in 1952, their honeymoon was spent on board an ocean liner to Montreal. From there, the newlyweds took a westbound train to Saskatoon, where they made their home for the next 19 years and raised three sons.
The family migrated further west to Victoria in 1971. Travel and adventure remained a big part of their lives, with Mexico being a favourite winter destination. Margaret and George were also longtime members of Uplands Golf Club. George passed in 2006, but Margaret still had the travel bug and continued to golf regularly into her 90s, eventually switching to the Henderson Park Par 3.
Margaret is survived by son Tom, devoted daughter-in-law Karen, grandsons Christopher and Cameron; son John and granddaughter Tannis; and son William, granddaughter Marissa and grandson Gavin.
On behalf of Margaret, the family sends its gratitude for the thoughts and support received from the many friends she made over the years, as well as her relatives, many of whom are still in Scotland.
Finally, a huge “Thank You” to the staff of Victoria General Hospital for their outstanding care and professionalism, which made the last few weeks of Margaret’s life as comfortable as possible.
