Marilyn spent her childhood years living in the North Thompson region where her father ran the McClure Ferry and mother the local Post Office. She graduated in 1955 from Kamloops High School and went on to attend and graduate as a Registered Nurse from Vancouver General Hospital in 1958. After graduation, Marilyn moved back to Kamloops and married her lifelong partner Gordon McMorran in December of 1958. Together they raised their family and moved and travelled extensively throughout British Columbia and Yukon. During this time, Marilyn continued her education and worked as a nurse in a variety of settings. A highlight of their life together was the almost four years they spent living in the Yukon. After that time in the North, Gordon and Marilyn moved to Nanaimo where they lived, worked, and raised their children until retirement.
Gordon and Marilyn later moved to Victoria, where they enjoyed their retired life, walking the Victoria waterfront and exploring the world. They were lucky enough to travel extensively, riding camels in Egypt, visiting villages in China, taking river and ocean cruises around the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Baltic, interspersed with regular visits to babysit grandchildren in England and around British Columbia.
Throughout Marilyn’s 64 years of marriage to Gordon, she made her family a priority. Supportive and present at all special occasions, she relished the times when all three children and eight grandchildren could be together. She is survived by her loving family: her life partner Gordon McMorran, sister Sandra Martin, children Beverly (John), Shawn (Anna), and Lori (Tim), and eight grandchildren Jessica, Christopher, Theodore, Imogen, Augustus, Venetia, Galen and Teagan.
You will be forever loved and missed, Mom.
A private family gathering will be held later in 2022. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favourite charity.
