

Mary is lovingly remembered by her husband Graeme, her children Chris, Fran and Liz, her siblings Martha and Jim; her very close cousin Suzanne; her grandchildren, Andrew, Alison, Evan and Diane; her great-grandchildren, Hayden and Charlie; and her extended family and many friends.She was pre deceased by her parents Geraldine and Murdoch, and her siblings Charlie, Joe and Sarah.
Mary was born and raised in Waterloo Quebec. At the age of 18 she left home and joined the Canadian Armed Forces, beginning a new chapter in her life, filled with independence adventure and new experiences. It was during this time that she met her first husband Arthur and began building her family.
As part of a military family, Mary moved many times while raising her children, adapting to new communities and the challenges that came with each posting. She built a life of resilience and determination, creating a home for her family wherever they were stationed.
After many years of moving and military life Mary and her family eventually settled in Victoria in 1971.
In her 40’s Mary met Graeme, and they began a new chapter together, living in Vancouver.
Mary worked for many years at the YWCA, and made lasting friendships there. After retirement, Mary was actively involved in volunteering with NDP campaigns, both in Vancouver and Victoria, where she found a place to contribute her creativity, passion, and belief in making a difference.
Mary and Graeme shared 48 wonderful years as partners, building a life filled with companionship, laughter and many memories. This year, just after her 92nd birthday, they were married at St John the Divine Anglican Church in a lovely and meaningful ceremony, celebrating their enduring love and commitment to one another.
Known for her quick wit, feisty spirit, and unmistakable sense of humour, Mary had a personality all her own. She spoke her mind, enjoyed a good laugh, and left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to have known her. She was deeply loved for her authenticity and the unique spark she brought to the Iives of those around her.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at James Bay Community Centre 140 Oswego Street, on Saturday, July 25 at 12 PM
