With deep sadness we say good-bye. Mel passed away at home on January 17, due to Pulmonary Fibrosis. He will be greatly missed by his family: daughter Tannis, son Michael (Karolyn), grandchildren Alex, Chris and Anna, brother Sid, sister-in-law Helen (Denny), cousins, many nieces and nephews, and his dog Abby. Mel was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Jeanie, and also by his sister Bonnie. Before retiring, Mel worked with Kelly Douglas, B.C. Ferries and SMUS. His love of sports led him to coach soccer for many years with Prospect Lake (and referee) as well as softball with Cordova Bay. He was a long time member (percussion) of the Greater Victoria Concert Band. Fishing and golfing with family and friends was always a favourite activity. Mel was very proud of his grandchildren and he cherished his time with them. Throughout his illness his lifelong positive attitude and sense of humour shone through, and he found joy in every day. Thanks to Dr. Marsh, Dr. Reid and Erskine Lane friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 a.m. at First Memorial (Falaise Dr.). In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s name to www.canadianpulmonaryfibrosis.ca would be appreciated
