Meredith Maddern

Meredith Maddern, 66, passed away in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, after a lengthy illness, on October 31, 2022. She will be sorely missed by those who loved her.

Meredith was born to loving parents Frank and Elizabeth Maddern in Paget, Bermuda. She moved to Victoria, BC in 1968 where she spent the majority of her life surrounded by the ocean. Meredith was many things to many people: a family member, friend, colleague, and confidante. She was always happy to see people and was never afraid to say what was on her mind.

After working at the UVic Bookstore and later becoming a successful sales rep, Meredith opened Calling All Cards, a popular card and gift shop. Many regulars often stopped by to share a laugh and have a chat with Meredith. She will be remembered for her charisma, “gift of the gab” and wicked sense of humour.

Meredith struggled with her health for many years. Due to the pandemic and her declining condition, she spent the last few years mostly at home. She always enjoyed a visit, and a phone call could easily last several hours; the conversation was never boring.

Meredith was very proud of her two daughters, and loved them and her husband very much. She was predeceased by her father Frank, and is survived by her husband Peter, daughters Metthea and Janna (Martin), mother Elizabeth, sister Marcia, and her cousin Sandra who has been a special comfort to Meredith in recent years.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Heather Clark and the palliative homecare team, especially nurse Janice Frew, for years of support, and to the wonderful staff at RJH.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Lung Association or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life is planned for the new year.
