It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nita Marie Wiltse (Waterbury) on January 3, 2025. Nita is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ronald Wiltse, her daughter Karen (Neil Antolin), sister Doris Ross, and many nieces and nephews.
Nita was born and grew up in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She often recalled summers as a child going to their cottage at Evangeline Beach, and her dad teaching her how to play golf. Nita attended Acadia University in Wolfville where she earned a degree in Secretarial Science. In her career she was an executive secretary for Ford Motor Co. in Halifax and Shell Oil in Vancouver.
Always up for an adventure, Nita packed up a car with 3 girlfriends and moved out west to Vancouver. This is where she met Ron while playing golf at the UBC golf course. After they married, they moved to Port Alberni for Ron’s job with MacMillan Bloedel, and spent the next 55 years here. Nita was a longtime member at the Alberni Golf Course where they played often. The family spent many summers travelling with their truck and camper across Canada and the U.S., always with golf clubs packed inside. She was also a skier and they enjoyed many winters skiing on the Island and throughout the province.
Nita was an avid volunteer, assisting with many organizations and activities in Port Alberni including the coordinator of Meals on Wheels, the city canvassing organizer for the Canadian Cancer Society, and the Port Alberni Community Choir.
Nita had a big personality and a big laugh to match. She loved a good joke and good debate. She was very feisty and loved a challenge. Her longest running tease was that she never told anyone, friends or extended family, of her age for her entire life. Please note that we have not posted her birthdate as per her request.
In 2018, she and Ron moved to Victoria to be closer to their daughter. We thank all of the staff at Berwick Royal Oak and Veterans Memorial Broadmead Lodge for their kindness and care of Nita.
Nita will be greatly missed by her family and friends who are so incredibly grateful to have had her in their lives. Per her request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
