Norman Ronald Lock

With dignity, pride, and finally pain free, Norman passed away on his own terms with his daughter by his side on the evening of Friday September 4th, 2026. Born to Walter and Gladys Lock, Norman enjoyed growing up in Esquimalt and met many of his lifelong friends at Macauley Elementary and Esquimalt High. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours paddling his treasured dugout canoe from the shores of the cottage (Lockhaven) in East Sooke, fishing with his family off Secretary Island, hiking and kayaking through the deep rainforests and endless oceans of Coastal BC. His teaching career took him to Haida Gwaii, Sooke, Aiyansh, Powell River, Abbotsford and eventually back to his home of Vancouver Island. His stories, treasures and artwork will live with us forever.

Predeceased by Father Walter in 2002, Mother Gladys in 2017, brother David in 2019 and brother Alan in 2021. He leaves behind his sister Doreen (Fred) Shanks, nephew Derek, niece Jenna, beloved daughter Emily Lock (Luke), and treasured grandchildren Connor (Keilen) and Coral Keys.

Graveside service on the autumn equinox September 22nd at 12:00 noon at Hatley Memorial Park and spreading of his ashes in Sooke at Whiffen Spit immediately after. Please join us if you wish.

In honour of Norman, take a walk in the forest or along our rugged Westcoast, go for a paddle, camp in nature, listen to the ravens and eagles, and live each day to it’s fullest with no regrets.
