March 4, 1950 – December 26, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Trevor Graham Barton on December 26, 2024, in Victoria, BC. Surrounded by family, Paul faced his final days with bravery and humour, embodying the strength and resilience he carried throughout his life.
Born in Eastbourne, England, Paul spent much of his early life in Bermuda and briefly in Germany. As a young adult, he moved to the UK, where he joined the Royal Navy as an Officer, embarking on a life of adventure and exploration. In 1992, he moved to Canada with his family and embraced new careers involving teaching, travel, and technology.
Paul is survived by his former wife, Carol; his sons, Michael (Abby) and Daniel; his cherished grandchildren, Cambria, Sage, Amelia, and Audrey; and his sister, Patricia Barton, in the UK.
He was predeceased by his parents, Renee and Ron Barton.
Paul was a man of many passions. A pioneer in technology, he embraced innovation and was often ahead of the curve, proudly owning one of the first laptops released. He was equally passionate about travel, which he described as one of the highlights of his life. Whether booking cruises as a travel agent or sharing stories from his journeys around the world as a Royal Naval Officer, Paul’s love of the world, its people and its cultures inspired those around him. From sailing in the Baltic and whitewater rafting in Peru, to hiking to Everest base camp in Nepal, he loved adventure. He even found a new passion for Zumba dance later in life.
Above all, Paul will be remembered for his bravery, kindness, humour, and talent for storytelling. He had a unique gift for finding humour even in difficult moments and sharing stories that brought people together. His resilience and friendliness left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the BC Cancer Society. A celebration of his life will be held in Victoria, BC, on Saturday, February 15, at 2pm, at First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria. All are welcome.
