Peter Carlisle Guise was born on October 16, 1941 in Calcutta. He was the third generation on his family to begin his life in India.
Peter grew up wandering the jungle that surrounded his home, armed with his trusty slingshot, a mischievous nature and a big imagination.
Peter created stories of his past that would be told and retold with great enthusiasm during times together with his siblings, of course with their own adaptations of excursions and daringness. This close and amazing relationship Peter had with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters would last throughout his lifetime. They truly gave the meaning to “I’ve got your back.”
In 1954, Peter’s parents decided to leave India, narrowing down Australia or Canada as the countries of choice.
Peter’s father Seymour had the heart of an adventurer and it was decided Canada would be where their next adventure would take them. Peter’s mother Elenore would pack up Henry, Marguerite, Peter, Ken, Richard and Heather leaving the country they called home. They left family and friends and departed for Canada with complete uncertainty and few resources to begin their new life, in a country that was foreign to them.
Such is the bravery of new immigrants.
Peter’s life in Canada saw him make his way through early school years, University and eventually employment as a Professional Forester for the British Columbia Ministry of Forests until his retirement.
As a young man, Peter met and married Geraldine Hallet and the young couple began a family of 4 sons Kevin, Colin, Ian and Stephen, all born with the same mischievous nature of their father and the influence of their mother’s kind heart. Peter lost Geraldine to cancer in 1998.
Peter loved the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, he loved hiking and nature. He never lost his adventurous spirit and probably because of this, decided his adventures would continue.
In 2002 he married Terry Stephen who was also an adventurer with a mischievous nature and the two would spend their married years with Terry saying “Hey, I’ve got an idea…” and Peter usually feeling ever so slightly apprehensive, would eventually throw caution to the wind and jump in with full support.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Terry, his sons and stepdaughters Kevin (Karen), Colin (Jody), Ian (Jocelyn), Stephen (Cheryl), Catherine (Jesse), Jennifer (Kirk) and his grandchildren and step-grandchildren Asha, Mason, Briana, Kaitlyn, Chloe, Liam, Taylor, Kendra, Alexis, Zoe, Lucas and Hudson. Peter was predeceased by his little grandsons Brendan and Trevor.
Alzheimer’s took Peter from Terry, not all at once and not suddenly.
This terrible disease took Peter from his sons and everyone who loved him, a bit at a time until he faded completely and he became missed before his physical presence had even left this earth.
A beautiful man is gone.
We wish to thank all of the staff at The Heights at Mt. View for all their loving care and support, especially the teams on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
When the time is right and we may gather together again, Peter’s family will take him to a place he loved the most and he will be released to the land where he will set out on adventures once again.
In lieu of flowers we ask you to donate to the Salvation Army, the only organization who offered a little help when the Guise family arrived in Canada. Peter felt forever grateful.
