My friend Petra!  
We met as young women at work in Willowdale, Ontario, where we soon became friends. During those years we took sailing lessons on Toronto Island, skied at Jay Peak, Vermont, and went camping with Petra’s Dutch cousins Meike and Marianne when they visited Canada. 

After five years of fun we loaded up my car one September and headed south for a warmer weather travelling adventure. Petra was so good at packing that car that I would just stand back and let her go for it! We adopted a dog, Misty, in Corpus Christi, camped for a month on Padre Island and took a canoe trip with a fledgling tour company for several days. 
We ended up in Grande Prairie, Alberta, for Christmas to visit friends and that’s when we met Jordy … and that was the end of our trip! …but our fun times together continued until she and Jordy and Jeffrey left GP. 

Our friendship continued and I am so glad that we met up again in Nanaimo and Ucluelet, BC, a few years ago with our friend, Betty. It was great to reconnect in person!
Petra was a person who went places and I was lucky to go with her! She was a great friend and I already miss her cheerful voice saying “Hi Les!” on the phone, and will miss her forever.

I am so sorry to hear of Petra’s passing. Petra and I were friends since the late 80s and we did many fun things together when we lived in family housing at UBC. I remember our frequent trips  to London drugs and IKEA where we finished our trip with kids playing in the ball room and a feast of Swedish meatballs. 
She was a loyal friend who supported me and all that I did —offering me a place to live when I finish my studies at the University of Victoria, and even attended my thesis defence. Rest in peace friend. Carla

To all Petra's beloved ones,

We regret to hear that Petra has lost the fight against cancer and she had to let go to all the family and friends she loved dearly.
We remember the good times we spent in her company, her visits to the Netherlands, and the moments we spent together, camping experiences in Austria, around the lakes in Ontario and the day of marriage with Jordy is a beautiful memory for life.
All the strength to you all to deal with the loss of your mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend.

Dear Katie and Jeff, in December 2007 you were with us in the Netherlands. One of the for us memorable pictures is the one with our mom. Luckely one of the moments that Petra did allow us to make a picture. Although there was always a long period between the times that we were together, there was always a lot of fun and laugther together with Petra. We keep that part in our memory, knowing that she did not have it easy at many moments in her life.
