He was born June 4 1939 in Breda, The Netherlands. His Father August Poelmans was born in Maasbommel in 1904 and his Mother Egberdina Poelmans (nee Jaspars) was born in Limburgh in 1906.
Peter immigrated from the Netherlands in 1960 when he was 20. He worked in Montreal and then spent 5 seasons in the north in the Mackenzie Delta, Tuktoyaktuk, Inuvik. He worked at the Empress and in the Research Branch of the Forest Service. He moved to Port Alberni and worked for Macmillan Bloedel. He returned to Victoria and worked for the Forest Service until he retired in 2000.
He leaves behind his siblings Leisbeth Millspaugh and her husband Bud, Connecticut; Josepha Drewes, New York; Wil Poelmans, Nijmegen; Joep Poelmans s'Hertogenbosh; and, Frans Poelmans and his wife Afke in Eelde. He was predeceased by his sisters Hanny and Reitje.
