Rebecca Nell Lawrence

Rebecca (Becky) Nell Lawrence passed away on July 6, 2026, at the age of 67. Born in Calgary, Alberta, June 28, 1959, fourteen minutes after her twin sister, Terrill Bodner, to their proud parents, Lee and Laura Lipsett.

She spent her elementary school years in Westville, Nova Scotia, where the Lipsett and Dolphin families had settled. Strong ties brought her and Ken back to the East Coast many times over the years, where visits with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends (too numerous to mention) were enjoyed.

Her parents ventured west to Prince George when she was 13, a move that shaped her future, where she spent the next 32 years building her circle of family and friends through her work as a Mary Kay director.

Becky and Ken began their 50-year love affair in high school and were married in March 1981 in Prince George. In October 1988, Becky and Ken had Heather, the first girl born to the Lawrence family for a generation. Then there were three to embark on many travels around the world!

In 1991, with help from many friends and family, Becky and Ken built their home on Spruce Street, right beside Ken’s parents’ home and just a few blocks from Becky’s parents’ home. Their home became a hub of many gatherings, including holiday dinners, Mary Kay meetings or parties, and countless celebrations.

After Heather and her husband, Aaron, moved to Vancouver Island, Becky and Ken fell in love with Sooke and purchased their home in a neighbourhood that grew to become a close-knit family of friends. Ken and Becky spent countless hours creating “Becky’s Garden”, a beautiful neighbourhood sanctuary. Under Ken’s pavilion, neighbours, friends, and family enjoy connecting while staying warm under Becky’s quilts.

In early May, a CT scan indicated tumors that were later diagnosed as a very aggressive brain cancer. In Becky’s way, she handled the situation with courage, humour, and grace. She chose MAiD when it was time, leaving on her own terms. Becky was surrounded by the love of her life (Ken), her “womb-mate” (Terry), her cherished daughter (Heather), and her favourite son-in-law (Aaron) during her final moments.

Her generous nature and loving spirit will live on in all of us who knew and loved her. We miss her terribly. We also want to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Royal Jubilee, especially Karen and her compassionate team on 8 South. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local charity of your choice and give somebody a huge hug.

A Celebration of Life will take place later this summer.
