He was born in England and spent his 20’s working in Kenya, Bermuda, Gibraltar and Singapore for Cable and Wireless, an undersea cable communications company. After emigrating to Canada in 1964, Richard worked in telecommunication positions with Ontario Hydro and later, the British Columbia Public Service.
Richard learned to sail in the Sea Scouts, and for many years, boats, several of them home built, were part of family weekend activities and vacations. Richard read widely, both fiction and non-fiction, and with a prodigious memory, could be counted on to know something about almost anything you might ask. After retirement, he enjoyed golf and was a long-time member at Olympic View.
Richard is survived by younger brothers Alan and Clifford, his wife, Marguerite Hobbs, children: Andrew Parfett, Michael Parfett, Fiona Parfett, Nicola Parfett, Deborah Parfett, and Christina Pope, stepchildren: Arthur Hobbs, Michael Hobbs, Winette Hobbs, and Winona Hobbs and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard will be remembered as a kind and patient man who liked to gently tease on occasion. He was a life-long learner who took great pride and pleasure in his family.
