Ronald, the youngest of three boys, was born to Roma and Leslie Truswell in Taber, Alberta. Upon moving to Calgary at a young age, Ron picked up soccer and hockey and a love of playing music, specifically the piano and the guitar.
Music would always be an important part in Ron’s life. As a young lad he sang with both the junior and senior choirs of St. Marks Anglican church and performed with The Calgary Anglican Boys Choir. Though his primary instrument was piano he became accomplished on the guitar, composing and performing. Ron’s early career was spent working with kids with special needs. This led to his long time involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters, first in Stettler and later in Victoria. His combined love of music and kids culminated in the formation of the non profit society, Music for Youth.
Ron will be remembered for his enthusiastic love of the west coast of BC, where he and his family moved from Alberta in 1996. We will continue to celebrate his love of kayaking. sailing, cycling and creating handmade wood carvings and pyrography. Ron’s story telling and adoration for his friends and family will be forever missed. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His love for connecting with the people around him will be something we all carry forward in our relationships.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Heather and two children, Daniel (and Kimber) and Julia (and Andrew). Papa Ron also leaves behind his first grandchild, due in October, but we know he will watch over his granddaughter every step of her life.
A celebration of life will be held for Ron in the Spring 2027.
