Ross passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice, Richmond Pavilion on Oct. 21, 2026, at the age of 95. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Edith; his daughter Janice (John), sons Peter (Connie) and David (Estelle); grand-children Bryan (Rebecca), Graham (Lindsay), Anna (Cody), Travis, Ethan, Evan and Andrew; great grand-children Vaida, Lenora, Milina, Henry and Ronan. He also received lots of attention from his goddaughter Ann.
Born and bred in Victoria, Ross was the only child of Percy and Hannah Noel. As a youth he roamed the shores of Willows Beach and Cattle Point and played soccer, baseball and hockey. He attended Willows Elementary, Oak Bay High, and received a Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) from UBC in 1954.
During Ross’ internship at Royal Jubilee Hospital (RJH), he met Edie, a student nurse at RJH from Chilliwack. They were married in March 1956 and eventually settled in Oak Bay, where they raised their children. Ross spent 30 years as pharmacist and co-owner of Davenport Pharmacy in Oak Bay with his partner, Larry Davenport. After that pharmacy was sold, Ross worked at Oak Bay Pharmasave with Roy Tucker for 12 years and then retired.
Noel family vacations were spent at Shawnigan Lake, Parksville, Hornby Island and Disneyland. Once retired, Ross and Edie took trips to Europe, the Caribbean and Hawaii. In 1980, Ross, Edie and Peter bought a condominium at Mt. Washington, where family and friends gathered and skied for many years. Even groups of skiing Boy Scouts enjoyed the hospitality of the “Owl’s Nest”, their home-away-from-home at Mt. Washington.
Ross loved playing and watching sports. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, played tennis and badminton, loved any opportunity to water-ski, coached hockey and was an excellent curler. As he became less active, he enjoyed watching golf, curling and of course the Blue Jays, on TV.
When Ross turned 80, he and Edie downsized and moved to Cedar Hill Links. He loved living on the golf course, the camaraderie of the neighbourhood, and the location. Ross and Edie were active members of Gordon Head United Church and Probus, and through both made many lasting friendships and enjoyed countless hands of Bridge.
Heartfelt gratitude to Rose, Ann and MaryAnn, who have given joyful and unwavering support to Edie in caring for Ross for the past 2 years, allowing him to stay in his home.
Special thank-you to the Community Health Nurses at Island Health and the staff at Victoria Hospice who provided such compassionate care to Ross and his family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice Society or the Victoria Hospitals Fund.
A Celebration of Ross’ life will be held on Friday, Nov. 13 @ 1 p.m. at Broad View United Church, 3703 St. Aidan’s St., Victoria, BC
