Ruth Hamilton

February 13, 1921 – November 23, 2015

Mom, Nana, Great Nana, Aunt, Great-Aunt and friend. – Loved and missed by all.

Predeceased by husband, Borden; grandchildren: Clinton and Leanne and 8 siblings. Survived by children: Marilyn (Wayne), Lenora, Daryl and Linda; grandchildren: Shannon, Rusty, Keith, Debbie, Tracy (Jamie), Kyle (Jessica) and Martin; great-grandchildren: Shane (Lara), Rachel (Josh), Sarah, Taya, Dalon, Braeden, Cole, Davis and many nephews and nieces.

Born in Woodstock, Ontario, Mom’s family moved to Hershal, Saskatchewan when she was 6 months old. Hershal is where Mom grew up, attended school and worked at many jobs. She moved to Regina in 1942 and joined the Army, becoming a driver, which is where she met and married Borden on February 16, 1943. Mom and Dad left the Army in 1946 and moved to Victoria to join Borden’s parents on Lockley Road in Esquimalt. Mom and Dad built their first home on Happy Valley Road beside Bob and Ev Campbell. They moved to 3611 Happy Valley Road, where they lived for 42 years and spent the last 21 years at the cottage beside Marilyn and Wayne. Mom’s many occupations, besides being the best homemaker ever, were being a cashier, working in a chicken and turkey processing plant and egg candling for the Nikkels’ family. Being the only mother with a driver’s license, she transported many children through the years to their various activities. Her love was her family, home and dear friends. There was always a cup of tea and homemade cookies and she enjoyed her big garden, canning, and baking, Mom passed away with a view out the sliding glass doors of her humming birds and quail flying around – surrounded by her family and behind her bed was her ‘family wall’ with all those she loved. Mom is now and forever at peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 8, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 761 Station Avenue, Langford.
