Stephen William Holland was born on June 25, 1949, in Liverpool, England and passed away on December 31, 2024, in Victoria, B. C., leaving behind a legacy of love, family and a successful career that was marked by his unique blend of talents and passions.
He was the beloved first son of Lucy (nee Suckling) and Vernon Holland, both of whom predeceased him. Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Linda Troke, his brother Geoffrey Holland, his wife’s family who loved him as their own and numerous cousins residing in England. He met the love of his life, Linda, as a youth in college and the spark was immediate but didn’t fully blossom until they reconnected 30 years later and “the rest is history”.
At the age of 12, Stephen’s family emigrated to Waterloo, Ontario. He later graduated from the University of Waterloo with an engineering degree. His 50-year career in the construction industry spanned three provinces before he finally settled in Victoria, where he formed his own company and worked as project manager and consultant in the construction business. He took great pride in the various residential and commercial buildings in which he was a part.
In addition to his construction career, his life-long passion was buying and restoring antique British motorcycles. Twice a week he would meet regularly with like-minded enthusiasts to talk “Rudge” or “BSA” as well as ride over hill and dale across the island.
Stephen will be remembered and loved for his dry English wit and his kind, helpful, generous and supportive personality. He was a great husband and friend to many. He will be very deeply missed.
