Victoria BC 1942 to April 29, 2021
After a Courageously fought battle, it was time for dad to cross over to be home with his Lord Jesus Christ and his Princess, Diane.
Dad retired from the office of the Sergeant of Arms for the British Columbia Legislature. After 17 years he had the rare distinction of having worked in all areas of the precinct. After these many years, they just could not let go of Dad so dad stayed on to work at the security office reception desk on Fridays. Here he would greet everyone with a winning smile, a bit of banter, and a steady supply of werthers.
Dad spent three years in the Canadian Armed Forces where he worked in Signals. He played an important roll in the military, however he was never able to discuss it!
Dad retired after 27 years, at the rank of Sergeant, from the Saanich Police Dept. He was the first Chinese Canadian hired by any Capital Region Police department. He faced racism from within the department as well as on the street. Through all this he stayed true to his heritage and where he came from and passed that pride down to me.
I’m now learning stories of how his integrity, strength of character and kindness touched lives and in some cases changed them.
Thank you to the staff at Broadmead Veteran's Memorial Care Home who took care of Dad these last 3 months from the care aides, nurses, janitorial, food services (Dad loved the meals)! and last but certainly not least the laundry dept who kept his clothes clean and spiffy! We thank you all.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Diane. He leaves his daughter Patricia (Gordon), best bud grandson Dakota, brother Larry and family, sisters Darlene and Brenda and families, sister Sandra, sister-in-law Louise (Garth) and families, and many more family and friends, too numerous to name but you know who you are. I do need to mention the following who laughed and cried with us the past 18 months: Dad's childhood friend Bob (Linda) Coates, Bill Storey (Heather McLean), Ron (Susan) Stewart, Rory (Wanda) Wong, Stu Montgomery, Kathy Taylor, McAdam family, Dad's Legislature family, my wonderful extended family, and Holli, Colby and Caden. If I missed you it was not intentional.
Fly free and new Dad, you are home. Your presence in all our lives will be deeply missed.
Final arrangements entrusted to First Memorial. Due to covid restrictions, a celebration of life will take place at a later date for both Dad and Mom.
