An avid outdoorsman and adventurer, Stephen started his antics with his brother Phillip and cousins in an around Shaw, Lancashire. He trained as a civil engineer and contributed to important projects in the Pennines. He met and married Mary (Guest) and subsequently moved with her and his parents and brother to Tenby, Pembrokeshire. There they took on the challenge of running a hotel before he transitioned to working at the Texaco refinery on Milford Haven. Throughout, Stephen nurtured a love for nature and shooting, thus creating lifelong friendships with Peter, Brian, and others. He and Mary were thrilled to welcome their son Stuart and, in 1987, migrated with him to Canada. There, Stephen became a talented project manager in construction and explored nature with his family, enjoying boating, fishing, and skiing. Field Trial Winner Ski dog became a camping dog and endeavoured to remove all the rocks from Canadian lakes. Some favourite moments included whitewater rafting, canoeing, and sitting around a fire with visiting relations or local friends. More recently, Stephen travelled with his son to Victoria, British Columbia, and ended up meeting Charlotte Painton and putting down roots. While dementia took him too soon, Stephen is remembered fondly for times well spent and laughs shared, as well as a wallet occasionally opened.
Stephen is pre-deceased by his loving father Clifford Whittaker and mother Marjorie (Chadwick) Whittaker. He is survived by his brother Phillip Whittaker and wife Diana, his son Stuart Whittaker and husband Justin, and his partner Charlotte Painton. Other cherished family include the Jacksons, the Bradburys, and the Carrs. Friends are innumerable and scattered across the UK and Canada.
