Born in Calgary, Joy loved ballet, fashion, golfing, business and spending time with the people she loved. Joy was a proud Calgarian, and wherever life took her, Calgary always held a special place in her heart. She loved the Calgary Stampede and was deeply proud of her heritage and family roots in the city.
Joy married Alan Grant in 1959, and together they shared 67 wonderful years of family, love and adventure.
She joined Alan in building Western Water and Sewer Supply, a successful business in Alberta and BC. Joy had a great business mind and was ahead of her time in business management, investing and trends. She always held great respect and admiration for strong, intelligent women and cultivated many friendships founded on this quality.
They built a life that took them from Calgary to Edmonton and back, before retiring to Vancouver Island, where they lived at Nanoose Bay and Victoria. They enjoyed many wonderful winters at their home in Tucson, golfing at Pinebrook in Calgary, and travelling around the world with friends and family. Those years brought treasured friendships, great adventures and plenty of stories to share.
Joy was predeceased by her grandparents, father, Jack Bennion; her mother, Hazel Bennion; her brother, Lawrence Bennion; and her daughter, Suzanne Denise. She leaves behind her loving husband, Alan; grandsons, David and Zack Pomeroy; great-grandson, Dante; sister-in-law, Judy Marsh; nieces Shelley (Todd Hebert) Marsh and family and Robyn Marsh. Sister-in-law, Brenda Bennion; niece, Kim Bennion (Loren Garand), and family; nephew, Steven Bennion (Julie), and family; niece, Laura Bennion (Ian Auld), and family in addition to “chosen family” and other close friends in Alberta, BC and beyond.
We will remember her vibrant spirit and those gorgeous blue eyes that lit up a room when she smiled. A private celebration will take place in the near future.
Rest at peace Joy – you are loved by many.
