

William James "Jim" Turner, 83 from Courtenay B.C., passed away suddenly on December 25, 2016 at the home of his daughter in Victoria B.C. Jim was born and raised in Winnipeg Manitoba, December 12, 1933, the son of Arthur and Gladys(Reid)Turner. Jim married Ruth Turner(nee Mortenson) in 1959 and had their daughter Karen shortly afterwards. Jim tried his talents in different areas of work but nothing seemed to suit him as much as the fire department. He was top of his class and he dedicated 32 years to the Winnipeg Fire Dept. He became Captain in his last few years before retiring. His career also allowed him lots of time for his passion, Golfing. As a family they enjoyed numerous summers at a cabin in Grand Beach with friends, they later enjoyed adventures camping in the tent trailer. Ruth and Jim took many fond trips to Kona, Hawaii to visit with Ruth's mother. After retirement and the birth of their Granddaughter, Jim and Ruth moved to Courtenay B.C. Jim continued his passion of golf at the Sunnydale Golf Course with the Rat Pack. Predeceased by his wife Ruth Ann Turner and his brother Reid(Effie); Survived by his daughter Karen Turner, granddaughter Kaela Turner, sister Joyce Gordon(Jack) and their children, brother Reid’s children, son Teddy Ludwig(Louise), grandchildren Daniel Ludwig, Veronica Grierson and great grandson Carter. A celebration of life will be held at a later date and announced. It will be held in Courtenay B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke foundation or The Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
