Ann Elaine Sala, a longtime resident of Victoria, TX, died Tuesday, April 14th in Covington, LA. She was 86 years of age. Ms. Sala was born on October 22, 1939, the 4th child of the late Josephine Pozzi Sala and John B. Sala, Sr. She was a descendent of a group of Italian workers who migrated to the Victoria/Rosenberg area in the late 1800’s. Her grandfather, Giacomo Sala, was among those workers who helped build what became known as the Macaroni Line, a railroad from Victoria to near Houston. Afterwards, many of the workers settled in this area, including the Sala’s.
Ms. Sala graduated from Nazareth Academy, obtained an Associate degree from Victoria College, and a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Houston, Victoria Campus. She was a longtime employee of Victoria College in the Biology Department. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and in her later years, attended Holy Family Catholic Church as well.
She is survived by nieces Tami Rech Wilson of Mandeville, LA, Lisa Sala Atzenhofer of Victoria, a nephew, Terry Sala of Victoria, as well as several great nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Helen Sala and Alice Rech, and a brother, John B. Sala, Jr.
A funeral Mass will be held on May 4th at 10:00 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nazareth Academy, 206 West Convent, Victoria, TX 77901.
