

After a long courageous battle with emphysema and C.O.P.D., Leon joined his Heavenly Father and all his angels June 6, 2015. Leon was born in San Angelo, TX to Claynell L. Joiner, Sr. and Hazel Prescott.
During the summer of 1964, Leon met the love of his life, Elizabeth Schley. Leon and Liz were married Aug. 5, 1966. After receiving his notice from the U.S. Army, Leon decided to enlist into the Army Aug. 29, 1966. After all his training Leon went to Vietnam Mar. 1967 to Mar. 1968. During his military career, he was also stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, Bindlach, Germany, back to Ft. Bragg, Kirchgoens, Germany and Ft. Bliss, TX. Leon retired with 20 years in the U.S. Army in Aug. 1986. After retiring, Leon moved his family back to Victoria, TX where he worked at Victoria Bank & Trust as a courier and then at Atzenhoffer Chevrolet delivering parts to various towns. He was currently employed at Atzenhoffer when he recently became ill. Leon was very determined to work even while he as in pain and short of breath. Leon was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to play jokes on people and had a great sense of humor. We will always cherish his memories, love him deeply and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Liz, of 48 years and 10 months, three daughters, Lisha Joiner of Victoria, TX, Lesli (Rick) Sturm of Yorktown, TX, Leela (Michael) Hallett of Victoria, TX and one son, Christopher (Amanda) Joiner of Victoria, TX, seven granddaughters, two great grandchildren and one sister, Crickett (Ed) Henson of Farmers Branch, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one granddaughter, Katie Shafer.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with full military honors. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of your choice.
