Connie was called home on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the young age of 91. Connie was born in Harlingen, Texas to Maria and Rosalio Moreno. Connie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alvino Moreno and Patricio Moreno; sisters, Jesusa Moreno, Alejandra Gonzales, and Alberta Guevara. She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Torres; granddaughter, Erika Long (husband, Dr. Stephen Andrew Long); and great-grandson, Aaron Andres Long. Also surviving is Connie’s sister, Mary M. Ramirez and brother, Lorenzo Moreno, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Connie met her husband, Jose T. Torres in Harlingen and they were united in marriage on August 1st of 1945. From the time of their marriage they lived in Harlingen and San Benito, Texas, but in 1958 Connie and Joe moved to Victoria, Texas and called it home until her death. Connie and Joe were married for 42 years until Joe’s death in 1987. Connie was a hard worker. She worked at Dolly St. Vincent Hospital while in San Benito, and then for 22 years at Holiday Inn in Victoria. More importantly she was a loyal servant to the Lord. Whether it was at work, at a birth, wedding, or other social event she was ready to give her testimony of God’s love and mercy in her life. She was an avid prayer warrior, and the first to fold her hands and bend a knee when a family member or friend was in need of prayer. Connie had high expectation of her children, and although she was unable to complete her education she and Joe were adamant that her children have an education. Her motto was: “Knowledge is power, but always use that knowledge to serve the Lord”. As her health declined, and she was unable to attend church services at Faith Family she always had the channel tuned to hear Pastor Jim Graff or Joel Osteen’s sermon. Connie was always quoting many of their messages and bible verses of family, faith and developing a relationship with the Lord. The family expresses their gratitude for the kindness, thoughtfulness, prayers and attendance of family and friends at today’s services for our Mother. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Fabian Espinosa and his staff, to Hospice of South Texas, to Courtyard Nursing Facility, to Serapio Orta, Jr., and to Colonial Funeral Home for their kindness, understanding and compassion during our time of grief.
Connie’s family will receive family and friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home in Victoria, Texas followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Carl E. Westbrook officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery.
