

Edward Mercer Matson, Jr., 86, of Telferner passed away July 23, 2014. He was born July 24, 1927, in Laredo, Texas, to the late Edward and Vera Lang Matson, Sr. Mr. Matson received his Master’s Degree in Education, was a retired teacher from the Calhoun County Independent School District and taught Industrial Arts at Texas A & I in Kingsville. He was a chemist for CPL and worked on his family’s dairy farm; Member of the Telferner United Methodist Church where he served as President on the administrative board and Sunday School Teacher and the Victoria Masonic Lodge 40 AM & FM and TRTA. He proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Army Medical Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Lucille Keefe Matson of Telferner; daughter, Julia Alma Matson of Telferner; sons, Charles Matson and wife, Kenda and James Mercer Matson both of Victoria; two grandchildren, Keefe and Charlsa Matson.
In addition to her parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Annette Matson.
The family will receive friends at Rosewood Funeral Chapels Sunday July 27, 2014, from 6 to 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 28, 2014, at 10 AM at the Telferner United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Masonic graveside services provided by the Victoria Masonic Lodge 40 AF&AM.
Pallbearers will be Charles, James and Keefe Matson, Bob Hill, Luther Easley and Chase Easley.
