Edward J. Valis, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Shiner, Texas on November 15, 1942, to John W. and Helen Roznovsky Valis. Shortly after marrying Peggy Clark of Yoakum, they moved to Victoria in 1962. Edward went to work for Hall Electric Co. where he worked for 42 years before retiring. He was a master electrician and was widely respected in the building community. He also taught Electrical classes at Victoria College for six years. He and Peggy were married for 46 years until her death in 2008 and they had 3 children together. Five years after the death of his beloved Peggy he found love again with Deborah Martin Zetka of Edna. Debbie was a loving wife with whom he enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors.
Edward is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughter, Sherry Kovar and husband Darrell; sons, Scott Valis and Chris Valis; three grandchildren, Kaylan Kovar, Kendall Kovar and Aaron Valis; two great grandchildren, Tucker and Madisyn Chesney. He is also survived by his brother Johnny Valis and wife Laverne, sister-in-law, Barbara Valis all of Shiner, sister-in-law, Betty Schuetz of Longview and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; parents; sister, Helen Bohuslav and husband Daniel of Moulton; niece Susan Jasek also of Moulton, and brother Raymond Valis of Shiner.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 1st, at Colonial Funeral home from 5 to 7pm with a rosary at 7pm. The funeral service will be held at Colonial Funeral home on Friday, at 2pm with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery on HWY 87N next to Son Valley.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Bohuslav, Angel Toro, Sammy Rubio, Robert McCown, Rob Key, and Jodie Turek. Honorary Pallbearers are his nieces and nephews, the Turek family and his former coworkers from Hall Electric.
A special thank you goes out to Dr. Vinod Ravi and the staff at M.D. Anderson Sarcoma Center, Dr. Nicolas Polaskas at M.D. Anderson Cardiology Dept, Dr. Kalpesh Bhesaniya, Hospitalist, and the staff of PAMS Acute Care at Citizens Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
