

Eugene W. Monney, 74, died unexpectedly on October 26, 2011, at his home in Victoria. He was born July 22, 1937, in Edinburg, Texas, to the late Karl Joseph and Olive Ballard Monney. Mr. Monney was proud to serve his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne in the United States Army. He worked as a firefighter early in his career. He worked 43 years at Union Carbide/Dow Chemical and 10 great years with Southern Field Maintenance and the "Magnificent Band-of-Brothers". During this time he was also a licensed U.S Coast Guard tankermen and a senior instructor at the Texas A&M fire school. Gene was an avid scouter, and diligently served the youth in his community. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Gene is survived by his sweetheart of fifty-two years, Stella Ann; his wonderful mother-in-law and second “Mom”, Emerald Smalley Theus; five children, Kami, Chad, Kristel (Hal), Page (Natalie) and Troy (Tracy); sister, Anella Colson; four brothers, Karl Jr., Charles “Pat” (Wyma), Bruce, and Lynn (Maureen); seventeen grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Olive; sisters, Louise Monney, Barbara Phillips; brother, Richard; and son Shayne.
A visitation was held Friday, October 28th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, 3304 E Mockingbird Lane, in Victoria.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29th, at 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3408 N. Ben Wilson. Full military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Veterans Joint Honor Guard will follow.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 pm at Six Mile Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Monney, Josh Monney, Tyler Monney, Tyson Monney, Taylor Monney, Trevor Monney, Tanner Monney, Colt Monney, Morgan Monney, Wyatt Monney and Cody Shields.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tiffany Monney, Afton Monney, Brooke Monney, Cloe Monney, Hunter Shields and Cash Monney.
