Gladys D. Williams, age 105, passed away on May 24, 2018. She was born in Cuero, Texas on January 22, 1913 to father John Herman Thormahlen and mother Johanna Gohlke Thormahlen. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ceasar Thormahlen and Bob Thormahlen, sons-in-law Kenneth Kirkland and Harvey McDonald and grandson, Alex Kirkland.
Gladys is survived by her daughters, Florence (Mills) Kirkland and Edna (Mills) McDonald. She was known as Nannie to her five grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren.
Gladys retired as a nurse from Citizens Medical Center, having worked for 40 years. She was the oldest active member of First English Lutheran Church of Victoria and the Lydia women’s Bible study group.
Gladys loved to cheer for all sports teams, especially the Houston Astros and the San Antonio Spurs, and enjoyed watching the Little League playoffs. She enjoyed her time in the kitchen baking cookies and making jellies, which were enjoyed by everyone. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing beautiful quilts.
Gladys was loved by family, friends and patients she nursed. She left a positive impression on all who met her. She had great faith in the Lord and set a great example to all who knew her.
The family sends special thanks to the staff at Citizens Medical Center and Twin Pines North Nursing Center for their loving care of our Special Lady.
Visitation for Mrs. Williams will be held on Tuesday, May 29, from 1 – 2 pm at First English Lutheran Church, 516 N. Main St., Victoria, TX, with memorial service to follow at 2 pm. Fellowship to follow the service.
Interment will be at Rabke Cemetery in Dewitt County at a later date.
