James "Jim" Milton King, age 76, of Victoria, Texas passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.Visitation will be held Monday, October 11, 2021 from 6-8PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 1PM at Parkway Baptist Church, with Pastor Bobby and Dawn Rivera officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Jim was born January 24, 1945 in Pearsall, Texas to the late Jesse and Alleene King. He grew up on a farm in Divot, TX, played football and drove his Model A out rabbit-hunting. In 1963, he graduated from Dilley High School and was recognized as "Most Handsome" of his Senior Class. He served six years in the Navy including four tours to Vietnam on a destroyer. He was awarded the Navy Combat Action Ribbon along with his shipmates. From 1971-1974, he was employed at Central Power and Light in Victoria. In 1974, he started working at DuPont, Victoria Plant until his retirement in 2000.
Jim was a loving husband of 50 years, a strong father of two children and wonderful "Pappy" to his three grandchildren. He was a man of integrity. Jim served in many capacities in his home church throughout the years once he became a Christian and was baptized in 1984. His most recent position was as an usher at Riverside Church in Victoria. Anytime he would meet someone new, he would tell them about how Jesus saved his soul! His hobbies were gardening, mowing, shredding, dirt work and volunteering at The Warriors Weekend Field of Honor every year. He was able to fix anything electrical or mechanical and he was always joyfully helping someone in need. He also enjoyed fishing with the grandkids and attending all of the youth events they were involved in.
Jim is survived by his wife, Bettey Vick King; son and daughter-in-law, John King (Jennifer); daughter and son-in-law, Angela Schaefer (Kevin); brother and sister-in-law, Arthur King (Susie); sisters, Linda Ewald and Patsy Grote; grandsons, Kasen King and Bryan Schaefer; and granddaughter, Andrea Schaefer.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Jesse King; mother, Alleene McDougall King; and brother, William Wallace King.
Serving as pallbearers are Marlon Vick, Garlan Vick, Jeffrey Gebbert, Shon Vick, Tim King, Todd King, Jason King and Bryan Schaefer. Honorary pallbearers are Denny Dubose, Arthur King, Maury Lynn King, Pierre Jacquenet and the ushers of Riverside Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Riverside Church Building Fund, Warriors Weekend Field of Honor or American Family Radio Association.
