

James D. “Dusty” Rhodes, Sr., 82, of Victoria passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. He was born December 9, 1928, in Edge, to the late Calvin D. and Luetta Murphy Rhodes. Dusty was a foreman for the U.S.D.A. and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army.
Survivors include his daughters, Tonda (Floyd) Goins of Victoria, Anne (David) Whistler of Freeport; sons, J.D. (Julie) Rhodes of Angleton, Neil Rhodes of Freeport; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dusty was preceded in death by his first wife, Gwen Rhodes, and his second wife, Sadie Machalec Rhodes; sisters, Ellen Kreitz, Lois Kalka and brothers, Will Henry Rhodes and Herman Rhodes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Mission Valley from 2-4 with the funeral service to begin at 4 PM with Rev. Terry Bartlett and Rev. Sid Tenery officiating. Full military honors will be conveyed under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council at the conclusion of the service at Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
Graveside services will be held at Noon on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Gene Goins, David Whistler, Jr., Michael Whistler, Jeffrey Whistler, Daniel Jasso and Mike Hill.
Honorary pallbearers are James Rhodes, III, and John Putz.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Veterans Council, P. O. Box 7382, Victoria, Texas, 77903.
