

James Douglas White passed away April 4, 2012, at the age of 81. He was born near Bloomington on July 29, 1930, to Bryan and Eugenia Herron White. After graduating from Bloomington High School he spent two years in the U. S. Navy, half of his service was in the South Pacific as a construction electrician.
Upon his return he married the love of his life, Helen Heibel, August 31, 1950. To this union they had three children, sons, Malcom Bruce (Cindy) White of Caldwell, Larry Douglas (Janet) White of Edna and daughter, Nancy Ann (Wayne) Slatter of Spring.
Douglas worked for Central Power and Light for 8 years at the power plant in Victoria. Then he hired on with Union Carbide at the Seadrift plant. He worked there for 29 years and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor in 1988. He and Helen lived in Bloomington until 1965 when they moved to El Toro near Edna. Here he enjoyed working with his cattle and taking care of his small ranch. He loved to hunt and made several trips to Colorado and New Mexico.
He and Helen loved to dance and spent several years dancing with the Mustang Squares and the Couples Dance Club in Ganado. They made many good friends during these years. Douglas also worked at the Jackson County Fair and served on the Fair Board for several years. He enjoyed working with the kids at the fair.
Together in their travels Doug and Helen visited 48 states and 12 Canadian Provinces. They traveled to Alaska three times and truly enjoyed their times on the road.
Doug was very proud to be a direct descendant of William White and Susanna White who were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Doris Veit, Dorthea Marek, Dolores Warnock and Juanita Nuchols.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen White; sons, Bruce (Cindy) and Larry (Janet); daughter, Nancy (Wayne). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jeremy and Angie White of Caldwell, Jennifer and Rick Bolton of Georgetown, Kristi and Will Kinnison of Victoria, Seth and Brianne Slatter of Butte, Montana, Stephanie White of Houston and James White of Edna; 5 great-grandchildren, Colton and Emily Bolton, Garret and Sarah White and Ellie Slatter; one brother, Donavon (Joannette) White of Refugio.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Friday, April 6, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. Nick Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Crescent Valley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy White, Seth Slatter, James White, Rick Bolton, Will Kinnison, Fred Rickaway and Jason Sulak.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
