Maria Martinez Moreno, 67, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019. Maria was born December 12, 1951. Maria graduated from Victoria High School and attended Victoria Community College. She worked at First Victoria National Bank for more than 25 years and was very active in her community. Some memberships she held were with the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce-Victoria Chapter, and the First Ladies Club. Maria was an entrepreneur; she owned her store, Ambiance. “Corazon” enjoyed traveling to places like Mexico; music, dancing, and having “a ball” with her friends and family. She always lived in the moment and was known for her strong, independent, and persistent personality. She always helped others progress in their own life and motivated others to reach for the stars to gain stability and success.
She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Ronald E. Moreno; two children, Adan J. Gutierrez III and Bethany E. M. Gutierrez; four children through marriage, Brenda M. Moreno, Sharon L. Moreno, Jason R. Moreno, and Manuel E. Moreno; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Theodoro and Elena Retiz Martinez.
The family will gather at Colonial Funeral Home for a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2019 followed by a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, Father Stephen Vacek officiating. Burial will follow at 12:00 pm in Guadalupe Cemetery,Yoakum, Texas 77995, Father Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. Pallbearers are Damion Fernandez, Donovan Fernandez, Timothy Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez, Leonard Moreno, and Manuel Moreno.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Susan B. Komen Foundation or Hospice of South Texas.
